ISO cylinder selection guide

Designed to meet industry standards set by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), an ISO certified cylinder is the mark of quality. As leading cylinder manufacturers and suppliers, we pride ourselves on the quality of our own ISO cylinder range here at API Pneumatic UK. All API UK ISO pneumatic cylinders are manufactured with the kind of attention to detail that only comes through years of industry experience and expertise. We have mastered the craft of creating a high-quality ISO cylinder with a design that’s effective, streamlined and, above all, modern.

If you’re in the market for a high-quality cylinder that guarantees long service life for applications with strict hygiene requirements, our ISO cylinders are the perfect component for you. To better assist our customers, API UK has developed a comprehensive ISO cylinder selection guide that perfectly complements our comprehensive ISO cylinder selection.

Which are the best ISO pneumatic cylinders?

The primary uses of our ISO cylinders are for dealing with applications and systems that have pneumatic requirements. As pneumatic specialists, ISO pneumatic cylinders make up the bulk of our ISO range. The primary ISO pneumatic cylinder models we have here at API UK are ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinders.

Our double-acting ISO 15552 pneumatic cylinders are available with standard seals, which perform exceptionally within temperature ranges of between -20°C to +80°C. However, we can customise your seal to provide either a low-temperature seal (with a -40°C and +80°C temperature range) or an FFKM seal (with a -20°C and +150°C temperature range) depending on the operating conditions of our application.

In addition, our ISO 1552 cylinders feature a wide range of bore lengths to suit varying application requirements, as well as two distinct barrel shapes that both provide different benefits. AMA barrels allow for the usage of flush-mounted magnetic switches, thanks to their grooves. While AMT barrels provide a similar function but feature tie-rods instead.

While ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinders possess similar features as their ISO 15552 counterparts, some notable differences do exist. For example, ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinders have the advantage of being supplied as single or double-acting versions, depending on your requirements. Additionally, both single-acting and double-acting ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinders from API UK can be manufactured as magnetic or non-magnetic should your application require it.

ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinder also contains a slightly broader standard temperature range of -30°C to +80°C, but can also be adjusted with FFKM seals (again providing an operational temperature range of between -20°C and +150°C). Although, much like their ISO 1552 counterparts, ISO 6432 pneumatic cylinders also feature a wide range of bore lengths to suit your application requirements.

Which are the best ISO air cylinders?

In addition to working optimally within pneumatic systems, both ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 cylinders can effectively deal with compressed filtered air. Both ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 certifications are applicable to applications with compressed air, as well as pneumatic power. As such, both of our signature ISO pneumatic cylinders types are manufactured to be applicable for compressed filtered air, with and without lubrication.

With this in mind, we would gladly recommend both ISO 15552 and ISO 6432 models for any business looking for high-performance ISO air cylinders. For applications that utilise compressed air with lubrication, it is important to note that once lubrication has started, this must be continued in order to effectively utilise our ISO air cylinders.

Which are the best ISO hydraulic cylinders?

For applications dealing with hydraulic fluid power, the latest ISO certification requirements for cylinders is ISO 6020. Although API UK does not currently deal with such requirements, with an ever-expanding cylinder product portfolio, we have no doubt that this will certainly be on the horizon within the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, if you have urgent requirements regarding hydraulic fluid power that need addressing, our experienced technical team will be only too happy to discuss cost-effective alternatives.
